Things aren’t going well for private investigator and mom Margie Peterson. Her husband, Blake, is claiming his taste for drag queens is “just a phase.” Her first-grade daughter isn’t fitting in at her new posh elementary school, Holy Oaks Catholic School. And her hippie mother has swept into town and replaced the family’s store of processed foods with seaweed snacks. To top it all off, a late-night phone call from her boss, Peaches Barlowe, has pulled Margie into a very strange murder case, one that involves the Holy Oaks headmaster, George Cavendish. Poor man—he just happened to die in a dominatrix’s pink vinyl wading pool while wearing nothing but Aquaman tights and goggles.
As it turns out, there are a lot of people who might have wanted Mr. Cavendish dead, from his bereaved, betrayed widow to the shady owners of the local strip joint. Not even Margie’s best friend, whose daughter didn’t get into Holy Oaks, is above suspicion. Can the overtaxed PI solve the case before things get even weirder?

This book starts out with the quirkiness showing right away. It didn't take long for a smile to appear on my face. Also the fact that some people who were angry with the idea of being investigated, had retaliated. Violently.
Poor Margie. Seems like everyone in her life had more control in her life than she did. Her flakiy husband, her status concerned mother in law and her "I know better, I'm going to take charge of your life" mother. She'd better grow a back bone and fast!! I really hated how her mother came in and just started moving her furniture and changing the food that they ate! What kind of nerve is that? But hold on, as the book goes on, she does begin to have reedeming qualities. Margie's life is such a busy mess though, I felt sorry for her. When is she going to have time to change things? She is so busy just putting out fires. Even her boss Peaches (who is weird all on her own) thinks that Marge has the weirdest family she has ever heard of. Although that just might be a plus because she was unknowingly heading into some pretty hilarious situations. That picture of the pig on the cover? That is just one of those unusual situations! And that part of the story packed quite a punch!
Ok, there were more than a few times that Margie made some pretty stupid moves. I wanted to shake her or slap her in the head more than once. Oh, she had a good heart but she just kept screwing up too. Oh, and I think it would be wise that she not attend any funerals, for awhile. One of the funniest things ever, she just seemed to spread her own form of disaster. To be fair, it wasn't all her fault. It seems like Margie often thinks, "Could this day get any worse?" And then she finds out yes it can, as she watches it happen.
There was plenty of action going on in the book, on several different areas. But what a book, although it really does need to come under the 18+ readership. Because of some of the topic mentioned. So many times I laughed right out loud. The author's way of putting things was really funny too. She described things and people in ways that kept that smile on my face often. And I just enjoyed the heck out of that!
